$2480.00 Donation made to Murder Through The Eyes of a Child Documentary Film

On Saturday April 3rd, 2010, we held an event with our good friends at NICHE and the ever so wonderful artist known as DALEK. Much fun was had by all. The point of the event was not just to party, eat and drink but to raise funds for a special film project by a great group of people documenting the horrible effects of the murder rate within New Orleans, LA on it’s young.

Combining the sale of Dalek’s “UNTITLED II” print and the funds raised at the event, we have donated $2480.00 to Crescent City Connections / Scrub Brush Productions for use in the filming and production of “Murder Through The Eyes Of A Child”.

A bit about the project:

“Murder Through the Eyes of a Child” is a documentary about the murder rate in New Orleans and it’s disproportionate effect among young black males. It’s these young men who account for over eighty percent of the murders. The project is unique in that the film makers have been running an outreach program giving classes in documentary film making to under privileged kids for months now, and they have taken the best students and armed them with HD camera packages so that they can document there own lives, neighborhoods, schools, and the situations that they find themselves in. While they are doing that the film makers are shooting a more traditional documentary focusing on the views of politicians, police officers, activists, and academics about the murder crisis. The idea is to juxtapose the difference between the views of policy makers and the reality for these young people.

The money raised for the project will go the the purchase of insurance to protect the children, filmmakers and crew that work on the project. Some funds will purchase equipment insurance for rental on cameras, grip, electric for photography of the doc. Additional monies will help support the ongoing project which is two days a week for a total of 8 hours(often more) as well as financing some rental of equipment to shoot the documentary.

Project location: New Orleans, LA
